President Obama is an incredible speaker. When on stage he resembles a preacher in a pulpit, often to similar affect. His speech before a joint session of the houses of Congress tonight is the perfect example of rubbish couched in eloquence. There were myriad pleas to humanity, citing one example after another of suffering to elicit emotion, but not much of what he proposed offers substantive solutions; rather, his Socialistic decrees will surely lead this country in the opposite direction. Do you think teachers should get tax breaks, pay increases, or other subsidies? It is often stated that teachers are underpaid, but they are the ones educating the future of America. How can this be? In an article by renouned columnist Thomas Friedman, he argues that part of the upcoming $1 trillion economic stimulus bill should be directed towards teachers.
Friedman states that “One of the smartest stimulus moves we could make would be to eliminate federal income taxes on all public schoolteachers so more talented people would choose these careers.” Continue Reading

It’s a broad initiative tying massive infrastructure, health care, energy, and education investment with job creation. In a recent survey about basic financial concepts, only 48% of high school seniors and 65% of college students answered 50% of the questions right. This is a sad state of affairs as far as financial literacy goes. I think that many parents assume their kids know what they need about money and don’t pass on the information that their kids will need in the real world.
